A symposium in the field of intellectual property was held at the Grand People's Study House on the 23rd on the occasion of the Day of World Intellectual Property.
The symposium was aimed at increasing the public understanding of the intellectual property and practical ability of people. Present there were officials of the Ministry of Culture, the Central Industrial Art Bureau, the Publications Guidance Bureau and other ministries and national agencies as well as working people.
Speakers touched on the geographical indications, knowledge of national heritage and traditions, new species of plants, conception and characteristics of genetic resources, necessity and significance of protecting the intellectual property, its protection system and tendencies of different countries.
They said the Laws of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea on Naming Places of Origin and Geographical Indications, on the Protection of National Heritage and on the Protection of New Species of Plants were adopted thanks to the wise leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea and the DPRK government and thus a legal foundation has been laid to actively conduct the work of intellectual property throughout the country and as an all-people campaign under the unified guidance of the state and a progress made in the work.
They explained about practical issues to make the most of the physiographical conditions of the regions concerned and actively develop, protect and use their special products so as to open up a new era of regional rejuvenation.
