The South Phyongan Provincial Posts and Telecommunications Management Bureau is known as an exemplary unit in the country’s communications sector.
It set an example in installing 4G mobile communication equipment and in designing, manufacturing and introducing more than ten technical ideas and equipment including the intellectual rectifier module project. It took the first place in the 37th National Festival of Science and Technology held last year.
Director An Tok Won was instrumental in the recent successes achieved by the bureau. He has been working hard for the modernization and development of the provincial telecommunication service for many years.
The officials and employees of the bureau call him an all-round official of high ability, deep knowledge and great leadership.
When he was appointed to the bureau as a worker over 20 years ago after military service, nobody expected that he would grow to distinguish himself as a man well versed in the sci-tech development of the telecommunication sector.
The recruit surprised his colleagues with the comprehensive observation device of the switchboard power network he made on his own.
But it was just a beginning. Afterwards he was enrolled in the study-while-you-work system and made tireless efforts to acquire more knowledge. Through such painstaking efforts he worked out the methods to remove telephone line noise and crosstalk, improve the quality of the telephone circuit based on stable voltage, recycling wasted batteries into high-performance ones with nano gel electrolyte solution.
Asked about the secret to his success, he said that he was inspired by the firm conviction and courage that one should create everything without depending on others.
He was promoted to a workteam leader and then the bureau director. Though he was busy, he never ceased to improve his ability while avidly reading books on advanced science and technology.
In the course of this, he played an important role in successfully completing the projects to remake and set up 100 multi-purpose connectors, renovate approximately 20 TV relay stations and lay the optical fibre cables of a relevant field.
In recognition of his devoted efforts for the modernization of the provincial telecommunication service, the state invited him as a delegate to major national celebrations and meetings including the Eighth Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea and honoured him as a meritorious person of socialist patriotism.
