A girl player captured the attention of football experts and spectators at the 2024 FIFA U-20 and U-17 women’s World Cups held in Cambodia and Dominica. She was Choe Il Son, forward No. 15 of the DPRK team.
Choe won the most valuable player and top scorer awards by scoring six goals in total at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
She hails from Kwail County in South Hwanghae Province. In her childhood she was good at running, which caught the attention of the experts, and she began to play football and later was admitted to Pyongyang International Football School.
The systematic and specialized education at the school solidly supported her natural aptitude and forte.
Playing for the April 25 Sports Club she was acknowledged as scoring star and promising player at different matches.
FIFA proclaimed new stars regarded as promising players in the senior women’s football team of the DPRK, and Choe Il Son was the first nominee with excellent talent and a threatening forward.
She was selected as one of the top ten players of the DPRK for 2024.
