The East Asian Qualification Tournament for the 29th Asian Youth Table Tennis Championships 2025 took place recently at the Table-Tennis Gymnasium on Chongchun Street in Pyongyang.
In the tournament attended by players of the DPRK and Hong Kong and Taipei of China, the men's and women's team matches were played on a round-robin basis.
The first and second placers would qualify for the 29th Asian Youth Table Tennis Championships 2025.
Matches took place for two days of April 19 and 20.
The DPRK male players, who beat the Chinese Taipei team 3-0 on April 19, played the match with the Chinese Hong Kong team on April 20.
The two teams played matches very fiercely.
Defeated by the Chinese Taipei team 3-1 earlier, the players of the Chinese Hong Kong team did their best as they could obtain qualification only when they won.
But the DPRK players finished the matches 3-1 in their favour.
So they won first place in the men’s team event by overpowering the Chinese Taipei team 3-0 and the Chinese Hong Kong team 3-1.
The Chinese Taipei team finished runner-up.
Meanwhile, the Chinese Hong Kong and DPRK teams came first and second respectively in the women’s team event held on April 19.
As a result, the DPRK male and female players qualified for the 29th Asian Youth Table Tennis Championships 2025 to be held in Uzbekistan from June 26 to July 2 this year.
