On June 25, 1950, the US and its followers suddenly started a war against the DPRK to nip it in the bud. The Korean people were compelled to fight a fierce three-year Fatherland Liberation War to defend their national sovereignty and dignity.
Who Is Winner?
Going to war, the US had not the slightest doubt about its victory, for it sustained no defeat in over 110 wars, big and small, it had ever fought for nearly 200 years since its founding.
The other warring party, however, was so young. It was only five years after Korea was liberated from Japan’s military occupation (1905-1945) and it was two years after the DPRK was founded and its regular army was organized. It was no accident that the international community was concerned about the fate of the DPRK.
Surprisingly enough, the war brought about unbelievable results. The US committed into the war as many as two million troops, including one third of its army, one fifth of its air force, the greater part of its Pacific Fleet, plus troops of its 15 vassal states, ROK army and the remnants of the former imperial army of Japan. It also poured over 73 million tons of materiel, 11 times as much as it did in the Pacific War, spent US$ 165 billion on war efforts and even used biological and chemical weapons. But it ended up having to sign an armistice agreement as good as a letter of surrender.
The US sustained such an unprecedented loss. During the three-year war it suffered nearly 2.3 times as much as it did in the four-year Pacific War.
Bradley, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, confessed they fought the war in a wrong place, at a wrong time and with a wrong enemy.
Surely the US was mistaken about its opponent. The US strategists failed to take into account how firmly the Korean people were united around Comrade Kim Il Sung (1912-1994) and how ready they were to sacrifice themselves to defend their system they valued so much. They could not foresee the indomitable spirit of the Koreans who were ready to fight for their motherland even at the cost of their lives despite their inferior armaments.
The Fatherland Liberation War taught such a lesson that those who violate justice and prefer war and invasion are only doomed to death and defeat.
