Kim Yo Jong, Vice Department Director of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, Monday issued the following statement titled "The Contact between the DPRK and the United States Is Only a 'Hope' of the United States.":
Shortly ago, a person in authority of the White House said that the president stabilized the situation on the Korean peninsula and reached the first top-level agreement on denuclearization through the three DPRK-US summit meetings during his first term of office and that he is still open to dialogue with the DPRK leader for achieving the complete denuclearization of the DPRK.
We do not want to give any meaning to the US side's unilateral assessment of the past DPRK-US dialogue.
It is worth taking into account the fact that the year 2025 is neither 2018 nor 2019.
The recognition of the irreversible position of the DPRK as a nuclear weapons state and the hard fact that its capabilities and geopolitical environment have radically changed should be a prerequisite for predicting and thinking everything in the future.
No one can deny the reality and should not misunderstand.
Any attempt to deny the position of the DPRK as a nuclear weapons state which was established along with the existence of a powerful nuclear deterrent and fixed by the supreme law reflecting the unanimous will of all the DPRK people will be thoroughly rejected.
The DPRK is open to any option in defending its present national position.
There should be a minimum judgment to admit that it is by no means beneficial to each other for the two countries possessed of nuclear weapons to go in a confrontational direction, and if so, it would be advisable to seek another way of contact on the basis of such new thinking.
I do not want to deny the fact that the personal relationship between the head of our state and the present US president is not bad.
However, if the personal relations between the top leaders of the DPRK and the United States are to serve the purpose of denuclearization, it can be interpreted as nothing but a mockery of the other party.
If the United States fails to accept the changed reality and persists in the failed past, the DPRK-US meeting will remain as a "hope" of the US side.
