It is one of the DPRK’s healthcare policies to protect and promote the health of children and women.
Childhood is a vital period for people’s lifelong health. In the period they grow fast both physically and mentally and respond sensitively to the external environment and conditions, but their resistance to diseases and immunity are relatively weak.
Therefore, juvenile health problems in terms of nutrition, hygiene and diseases control have lifetime effects on their future health.
Women should take good care of themselves as their physiological functions such as pregnancy, childbearing and breastfeeding change in the process of periodic repetition. Otherwise, they might hardly expect healthy childbearing, normal social activities and family lives.
Good protection of mothers’ health in particular provides an important condition for the birth of a healthy new generation and the upbringing of children.
Thus, healthcare for children and women is an essential part of public health service and of great significance in its development.
Today childcare facilities, neighbourhood-serving amenities and health centres are in place across the country, with measures taken to prevent and cure diseases for children and women. According to a new childcare law that was adopted in early February 2022, the state has established a well-knit system for producing and supplying children’s nutritious foods, and is supplying all the children with nutritious foods like dairy products for free and in a regular way and creating best conditions for their upbringing.
In addition, all the women in the country take active part in social labour. They are provided with suitable jobs according to their abilities, aptitudes, hobbies and wishes, as well as favourable working and living conditions.
