An IT product presented by the orthodontic department at the General Dental Hospital under the Ministry of Public Health was highly appreciated at the national IT achievements exhibition-2024.
The product is an application program that helps conceive a more rational way of orthodontic treatment by identifying procedures through facial scanning and processing of 3D images of teeth arrangement.
The development of the program has brought about a fresh progress in orthodontic treatment by making it possible to correct jaw deformities earlier, which were previously hard to treat in a scientific way because of serious malocclusion.
Such a success owes much to Kim Chol U, chief of the orthodontic department.
Kim has compiled the “Dictionary of Dentistry Terms” and several essays. He is well-versed in orthodontics and has rich clinical experiences of over 20 years. While in work, he came to explore more scientific and effective procedures.
He made this undertaking one of the tasks for the department and set out to develop a program for supporting jaw straightening, a technique that requires a high degree of technical skills, while making the most of the clinical practice and wisdom of all orthodontists. Years of efforts paid off with an outcome of an IT product of great clinical significance.
Not content with this, he worked hard to produce more good results in his major field.
Kim made some research achievements including a method to improve the effectiveness of straightening of the anterior teeth of the upper jaw, an urgent problem in the clinical practice, and a new procedure for dental impaction, a symptom frequently found in children aged 11-12.
He always leads his department with an enterprising work attitude and achieves successes in treatment, which earns him an important position both at the hospital and in the country’s orthodontic field.
His seniors say that he reminds them of his father Kim In On, one of the pioneers of orthodontics at home.
