A firing training contest of tactical artillery sub-units under large combined units of the Korean People's Army was held on the 11th according to a combat training plan of the General Staff of the KPA to perfect the war-prosecuting ability and combat readiness of the whole army.
The contest was aimed at strictly examining and judging the proficiency of the artillery sub-units of tactical units for the firing support combat action rules and generalizing the example of excellent sub-units throughout the whole army.
Marshal Pak Jong Chon, Vice-Chairman of the Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party of Korea and Secretary of the Party Central Committee, oversaw the contest.
He was accompanied by Vice-Marshal of the KPA Ri Yong Gil, Chief of the General Staff of the KPA.
Commanding officers of the General Staff of the KPA reviewed the contest.
Participating in the contest were the different-calibre mortar artillery sub-units.
The mortar artillery sub-units moved to the firing area overcoming the unfavourable sections of obstacles according to the firing command of the commanders of large combined units of the KPA. They got to their tasks of striking different enemy targets in sight and major facilities according to the tactical mission and hit those targets within the set time with good marksmanship they have practised through an intensive training.
High fighting efficiency and regular preparedness of the artillery sub-units of the tactical units were fully proved at the contest.
Vice-Marshal Ri Yong Gil announced the total ranking of the large combined units. And the diploma of crack gunner was awarded to the 82-Millimeter Mortar Company of the 6th Battalion of the 55th Machanized Infantry Brigade of the 9th Army Corps which got excellent marks in the contest and the crack gunner medals and badges to its soldiers.
