On September 15, 2009 Chairman Kim Jong Il told officials that he was going to visit the construction site of the Huichon Power Station.
One of the officials requested him to give up his plan to visit the faraway construction site over the rugged path, saying that the distance of his field guidance trip by train that year was equivalent to a total of the distance he had travelled by train for the past ten years.
At this he said that there were his soldiers and people in the construction site of the Huichon Power Station, adding:
Every time I go out on a field guidance trip, I feel light-hearted to think there are my soldiers in the People’s Army units and my people at factories or farms even though the way ahead is long and rugged. Because I think there are my soldiers and people in the construction site of the Huichon Power Station, too, I take the road of field guidance to see them. I regard it as a great pride to make a long and hard journey to meet the soldiers and people.
The official was deeply moved by what he said. Kim Jong Il continued that he got accustomed to a life on the train and that’s why he feels at home when he finds himself in the train and he rather feels like stepping into a hotel room when he is back home.
Indeed, he visited a large number of factories, farms and construction sites throughout his life to lay the eternal foundations for national prosperity.
