Pyongyang, September 7 (KCNA) -- The prestige and might of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, a socialist state with the longest history, are represented by its dignified national emblem.
The national emblem of the DPRK designed under the detailed guidance of President Kim Il Sung , founding father of socialist Korea, is incomparable in terms of meaning and popular character.
The issue of instituting the national emblem was first brought up for discussion at a major meeting held in Pyongyang in November 1947 after Korea's liberation (August 15, 1945).
The President guided the creators to a shortcut to the idea and even drew a transmission tower of a hydroelectric power station reflecting the electrification of the country and gave instructions on the details of the national emblem as well as artistic representation.
Through its five-pointed star and beam, the national emblem of the DPRK represents the future of the country advancing for the accomplishment of the revolutionary cause of Juche under the leadership of the President.
Mt Paektu under the five-pointed star symbolically shows that the DPRK is carrying forward the anti-Japanese revolutionary traditions.
The red band wrapping the rice ears reflects the invincible unity of our people rallied around the Party.
The name of the "Democratic People's Republic of Korea" in the centre of the lower part of the red band means that the DPRK ensures democracy to the maximum in state building and activities so that the masses of the people become genuine masters of state power, and provides them with political freedom, rights and happy material and cultural life.
The hydroelectric power station and rice ears on the emblem symbolize the future of a prosperous independent and sovereign state.
The national emblem of the DPRK reflecting the desire of the peerlessly great man for nation building was born with the sentiments, ideal and aspiration of the people. -0-
