The metallurgical industry sector is endeavouring to strengthen the foundations of iron and steel production.
The Kim Chaek Iron and Steel Complex has raised the quality of refractories, thereby improving the performance of furnaces and operating rate of equipment. In the course of this, it has achieved progress in completing new methods which make it possible to remarkably extend the repair cycle of oxygen blast furnace, save a lot of fuel and increase iron and steel output.
The Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex successfully overhauled a 100-ton UHP electric arc furnace and improved the operation techniques of the energy-saving oxygen blast furnace, thus opening up a prospect for increasing iron production.
It has newly established a line of producing activated quicklime using limestone and coal abundant in the country. As a result, it has increased the quality and production of iron and steel, while saving labour, power and fuel as against the previous period.
The Chollima Steel Complex has recently built an efficient and advanced curve-type continuous ingot moulder capable of raising iron and steel production.
The complex produced ingots with molten iron of scores of charges from the new moulder on a trial basis, proving that the operation of all its systems is easy and highly economic.
The Jangsan Mine has succeeded in producing high-quality chamotte refractory bricks and improving the quality of refractory bricks, making a contribution to increasing productivity at metal works.
The Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex and other units have already used the bricks, proving in practice that the repair cycle of kilns has extended considerably.
