The head diplomats of the U.S., Japan and the ROK issued a joint statement in which they expressed concern over the frequent acts of destabilization around Taiwan and rejected the illegal claim for maritime rights and interests. The Chinese Foreign Ministry denounced this as interference in its internal affairs and slander on China.
The spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry expressed great discontent with and strong opposition to the joint statement, adding that Taiwan is an inseparable part of Chinese territory, and that China shall not tolerate interference by any external forces on Taiwan issue.
He stressed that contemporary biggest threat to peace and stability around the Taiwan Straits is the act of separation seeking “independence of Taiwan” as well as acquiescence to it and fomentation by external forces.
Noting that China will firmly defend its territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interest, he urged the U.S., Japan and the ROK to respect shared efforts of the regional countries to resolve issues through dialogue and negotiation and maintain peace and stability and stop any acts of aggravating tension and instigating confrontation.
