The Workers’ Party of Korea, which organizes and guides all victories of the Korean people, is greeting its 80th birthday. The day reminds them of the immortal exploits the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung performed for achieving the historic cause of the Party founding.

In his teens he embarked on the road of the revolutionary struggle with a high ambition to win back his country lost to the Japanese imperialists. He planned to found a vanguard organization of the Korean revolution and on October 17, 1926 formed the Down-with-Imperialism Union (DIU).

The DIU put forward its programme, with the overthrow of Japanese imperialism and the liberation and independence of Korea as its immediate task and the building of socialism and communism in Korea and, further, the destruction of all imperialism and the building of communism in the world as its ultimate goal.

At the historic Kalun Meeting that was held from June 30 to July 2, 1930 Kim Il Sung presented a unique policy for founding a party by setting up basic party organizations first and steadily expanding them, and closely linking preparations for forming a party with the armed struggle against the Japanese imperialists.

On July 3, 1930 the Society for Rallying Comrades, the first party organization, was formed and expanded across the country under his leadership, and in May 1934 the Party Committee of the Korean People’s Revolutionary Army was established to provide unified guidance and control over its units at all levels plus regional party organizations.

In May 1936 the Association for the Restoration of the Fatherland, a permanent anti-Japanese national united front organization, was founded to further consolidate the mass foundation for party founding.

Right after Korea’s liberation on August 15, 1945 Kim Il Sung pushed vigorously ahead with the preparations for founding a party on the basis of the organizational and ideological foundations built during the anti-Japanese revolutionary armed struggle. In his speech delivered to military and political cadres of the KPRA on August 20, 1945, he set forth the three major tasks for building a party, state and army in the liberated country with party founding as the primary task.

On the basis of such scrupulous preparations he convened the inaugural congress for founding a party and proclaimed the birth of the Juche-oriented revolutionary party on October 10, 1945. With the founding of the party the Korean people had a powerful political general staff and a vanguard detachment of the revolution of their own, and launched a new struggle to victoriously advance the revolution and construction under the leadership of the party.

The WPK which originates from the DIU is now creating a new history of steady progress and development under the leadership of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un , invariably carrying forward its original ideals and spirit.
