Many university entrants have come from the schoolchildren who studied in Pyongyang last year after being displaced by flood, bringing delight to their teachers and parents.
While staying in Pyongyang’s April 25 Hostel, the schoolchildren from the flood-stricken areas in North Phyongan, Jagang and Ryanggang provinces kept studying at well-equipped classrooms for 130 days in continuation of their course for the universal 12-year compulsory education.
This proved the validity and vitality of the policy of the Workers’ Party of Korea on bridging the gap in education levels between Pyongyang and regions.
Fine education presupposes good conditions and environment, high credentials of teachers, and advantageous and advanced contents and methods.
In August last year well-equipped temporary classrooms were set up in the hostel for the schoolchildren from the afflicted areas, and top-qualified teachers were chosen from educational institutions in Pyongyang to organize a mobile task force to provide teaching.
The task force arranged classes into different categories to meet the intellectual levels and abilities of the students and applied tailored courses to them for a certain period.
This approach was very effective in encouraging the students to be proactive and purposeful in learning, and it has displayed its vitality since it was generalized across the country.
High credentials of the teachers and their original teaching methods improved the academic performance of the students in such a short span of time.
This year, more than ten students at Hadan Senior Middle School No. 1 alone in the city of Sinuiju, North Phyongan Province, were admitted to universities or colleges.
