Remarkable progress has recently been made in education in North Phyongan Province of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

This year the province has made great efforts to build or renovate educational facilities to consolidate the regional educational foundation.

The remodelled and well-equipped educational facilities, more than 60 in all across the province, include Changsong Technical College, the county teachers’ in-service training school, Changsong Primary School in Changsong County, several schools and branch schools in Sonchon County and Tongnim Primary School in Tongnim County.

Another achievement is the growing spirit to create new teaching methods among the educators.

The instructors of the provincial teachers training centre and city and county teachers’ in-service training schools created new effective teaching methods and gave exemplary lessons at various educational establishments to generalize their successes and experience. They also provided guidance and assistance to ensure that the educational institutions conducted inspection of lectures and discussion about teaching styles and methods in a substantial way.

Meanwhile, the province organized presentations of experience of teachers who produced excellent teaching methods and gave wide publicity to them so that a brisk movement for exchanging experience was launched in the field of education.

This gave rise to hundreds of new teaching methods this year, and the excellent teaching methods created at Sinuiju Middle School No. 1, Sinuiju Foreign Languages School, Ryongchon Primary School in Ryongchon County and Jongju Primary School in Jongju City were introduced into other educational institutions across the country.

The Sinuiju College of Medical Sciences newly built a comprehensive online lecture room, both multi-functional and IT-based, designed for effectively applying heuristic teaching methods and stimulating the students’ sense of inquiry. It is equipped with a screen displaying the whole course of operation at various hospitals including the provincial general hospital. The room can be used as the venue for lectures on the latest medical science and technology for medical workers of the preventive and curative institutions in the province, and presentation of papers for academic degrees of teachers and postgraduate students in contact with scientific research institutes, and other events.

It is helpful for training competent doctors for the modern city and county hospitals to be built in the province and improving the qualifications and levels of the local doctors in keeping with the development trend of modern medicine.
