This year’s December 15 marks the 99th founding anniversary of the Saenal Children’s Union, the first of its kind in the country organized by the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung .
Kim Il Sung stopped by Fusong on his way to Jilin to further expand the theatre of struggle after organizing the Down-with-Imperialism Union on October 17, 1926.
At that time many children in Fusong could not have access to school for poor living, but helped their parents with their farm work.
Thinking that they would be a great strength if they were organizationally united and encouraged to join the fight to win back the country, Kim Il Sung energetically worked with the children while staying in Fusong.
He taught them the history and miserable reality of the country, calling on them to fight the enemy uncompromisingly to the last.
His energetic guidance inspired them to get more determined to fight against the Japanese imperialists to achieve national independence.
In keeping with the growing revolutionary spirit among the children, he organized a preliminary meeting to form a children’s organization.
At the meeting he expressed his resolve to form an organization as early as possible which would unite the children and lead them along the right path.
The organization we are going to build should be an organization which struggles to overthrow Japanese imperialism and achieve the country’s liberation, and fights for a new day, a new society, when the working masses could lead a happy life, he said, adding that in his opinion it would be a good idea to call the organization the Saenal Children’s Union in the sense that it is a revolutionary organization of a new generation fighting for the bright new day of Korea’s liberation.
On December 15, 1926, Kim Il Sung formed the Saenal Children’s Union with patriotic children in and around Fusong.
The union defined the organizational principles and a work system for it, as well as daily routine for its members, and aimed to prepare them for the independence of the country and the victory of the Korean revolution.
The formation of the Saenal Children’s Union set the stage for the revolutionary children’s movement in the country. Later, it developed into the Children’s Corps and then into the Korean Children’s Union after the liberation of the country on August 15, 1945.
