Ri Ho Son is an associate professor and PhD in electrical engineering at Pyongyang University of Transport. She became the first woman in the university to obtain the academic degree.
In recent years she has developed a traction conversion device that is vital to a new-type electric locomotive and tube train.
Currently the device is made only by a few countries.
Although she had few technical documents for reference, she completed the converter through design, manufacture, coordination and trial test at the production site. In this way she did an important part in producing modern electric locomotive and tube train.
She was awarded the February 16 Science and Technology Prize, the top sci-tech prize in the country, for her outstanding role in the development of impulse-controlled electric locomotive, traction conversion device and high-speed circuit breaker.
