The Natural Energy Institute of the State Academy of Sciences has developed a new methane gas production technology.
Previously, methane gas was collected mainly from dung or by mixing it with straw. Every house needed a separate gas tank and so the cost for construction and maintenance was high.
But the new technology makes it possible for rural communities to produce the gas as much as they can as it allows only the straw of crops such as wheat, barley, maize, rice and a mixture of grasses to be used as the materials for fermentation.
Meanwhile, the gas supply for a certain number of households can be sourced from a single production station. The gas tank is, by design, favourable for feeding and releasing the raw materials.
The residues from the fermentation can be used for enriching the humus content of soil.
The new technology has been adopted by several units, receiving good feedback and proving its superiority and scientific accuracy. For example, the Unjong Livestock Farm under the North Hwanghae Provincial Rural Economy Committee is greatly benefitting from it.
The farm runs a methane gas production station with a capacity of many hundreds of cubic metres for 150 households in the township.
The new technology has been registered as an invention of national significance.
