Kangwon Province is noted for rugged mountains and deep valleys.
So far the province has built many small- and medium-sized hydropower stations as suited to its regional characteristics. The power stations contributed to the development of the regional economy and the improvement of the local people’s standard of living.
In recent years alone, it has built hydropower stations in the areas of Ichon, Munchon, Sepho, Phyonggang, Kosong and Hoeyang in a row.
Their construction has opened a wide vista for increasing production at industrial establishments and building new production bases.
The urban management sector in the province increases the number of lampposts in the streets and parks and decorates amenities and other buildings with unique illuminations.
Benefits from the construction of the power stations are not electricity alone.
Large artificial lakes appear among deep mountains, and their water resources are used for industrial, irrigational and domestic purposes in the province.
Farms suffer no longer from a shortage of water, with a large area of maize fields turned into paddy fields.
The afforestation and river improvement projects for disaster prevention went hand in hand with the construction of power stations so that the local people can lead a stable life.
