The Korean People’s Army is called by various other names: “Heroic KPA,” “Invincible Revolutionary Armed Forces” and “People’s Army,” etc.
All these appellations reflect the people’s admiration and expectation for the KPA which has defended the country and contributed to its prosperity.
On February 8, 1948, the KPA was founded, which fulfilled the long-cherished desire of the Korean people to have their own regular armed forces.
All the local people were so excited to have the revolutionary regular armed forces which can prevent them from experiencing another miserable fate of a ruined nation and can defend the safety and sovereignty of the country from the aggression of the enemies. At that time, a newspaper, commenting on their excitement, described the army as an “army of the Korean people with a sturdy appearance.”
Since its birth, the KPA has rapidly strengthened itself, performing undying feats for the country and the people.
It achieved victory against the imperialist aggressive forces in the Fatherland Liberation War (June 25, 1950-July 27, 1953) which could be likened to a fight between a rifle and an atomic bomb, rising to fame as the heroic, brave and invincible People’s Army. Since the war it has reliably safeguarded the safety of the country and the people, smashing every anti-DPRK move of the imperialist forces.
It has played a core and vanguard role also in building a socialist power and implementing the grand plan of the Workers’ Party of Korea to provide the people with a more affluent and civilized life.
The KPA service personnel have made devoted efforts to build a large number of monumental structures such as the West Sea Barrage, Masikryong Ski Resort, Yangdok Hot Spring Resort, Anbyon Youth Power Station, large-scale greenhouse farms in the Ryonpho, Jungphyong and Kangdong areas, regional-industry factories in different parts of the country, new streets including Songhwa, Hwasong and Jonwi built in the new era of prosperity of Pyongyang and farm fields and fishermen’s villages where people’s happiness are in full bloom.
The KPA continues to perform laudable feats upholding the banner of “We serve the country and the people!” Therefore, the Korean people call it the defender of the country and their happiness and the pioneer of transformation.
