The Eighth Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea held in January 2021 set forth a line on building up the national defence capabilities in a sustainable way.

Over the past five years the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un has made strenuous efforts to boost the national defence capabilities while convening several enlarged meetings of the WPK Central Military Commission, paying congratulatory visits to the Ministry of National Defence and the commands of the Navy and Air Force of the Korean People’s Army, inspecting large combined units and other units of different services and arms of the KPA, visiting major munitions factories and defence industry enterprises, and overseeing the test fires of different weapon systems.

Thanks to his leadership, the armed forces of the DPRK have developed into a powerful army, the country’s defence science and technology and the Juche-oriented defence industry have made sustainable progress and taken rapid leaps forward, and tangible achievements have been made in the preparations for all-people resistance.

Kim Jong Un put forward an idea on ensuring that the nuclear forces, hardcore of the military muscle, should be strengthened both qualitatively and quantitatively so that they can demonstrate their capabilities in any war situation by employing different means. He made sure that the revolutionary armed forces overwhelmingly built up their capacity to respond to war and got fully ready for fighting, while overseeing the warlike drills of nuclear operation units and other units of different services and arms.

Therefore, the DPRK’s strategic forces have emerged as an entity of super powerful and absolute strength and a treasured sword for defending justice and peace.

Amid the struggle to upgrade the defence science and technology, cutting-edge weapon systems and equipment of all sorts have been developed, and military hardware exhibitions held on several occasions.

Since the initial days of its founding our Party has consistently prioritized the Juche-oriented defence industry, laying the groundwork for its independent development and setting one ambitious goal after another for its steady growth, Kim Jong Un said as he addressed the opening ceremony of the military hardware exhibition “Defence Development-2025” in October last year. He added that recently, in less than one year, this industry has achieved notable successes again and making public those successes for our people to see will constitute the highest praise for our Party’s 80-year history.

As he regards self-reliance in national defence as vital to the defending of the revolution and development, the DPRK is strengthening its defence capabilities more and more to reliably guarantee its dignity and security and peace.
