This year new education program will be enforced from the new school year in the primary and secondary education sectors of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
What is fundamental in the new education program is the elective course of study.
The elective course of study is divided into fields of literature, sciences, art, sports and technology with specific subjects.
Primary and junior middle schools teach general knowledge according to the unified standard curriculum set by the state, and senior middle schools and technical senior middle schools give education of literature, sciences, art, sports and technology according to the individuality of students so that they can acquire at least one technical skill at the stage of secondary education.
The educational sector has promoted the work for drawing up a new curriculum of compulsory education, writing textbooks and tentatively applying the elective course of study in a number of cities and counties.
At the same time, it organized several training courses on the new curriculum for officials and teachers in the field of education and put spurs to the preparations for building up teachers and laying material and technical foundations in contact with provinces, cities and counties.
