Everyone has a native home and cherishes the memories of it.
The memories of everything in the home town are beautiful and lovely for all.
For Comrade Kim Il Sung , however, a native home was more than a place that gave those lovely feelings and fond memories alone.
The nostalgic memories he cherished during the anti-Japanese armed struggle were about his father Kim Hyong Jik, an outstanding leader of Korea’s anti-Japanese national liberation movement, who had impressed on him the idea of “Aim High” that his life is worthless if he fails to liberate the country and he should fight an undaunted struggle generation after generation, even if his body were torn to pieces, to bring the spring of independence without fail. His memories were also associated with his mother Kang Pan Sok, a prominent leader of the Korean women’s movement, who had repeatedly asked him to grow up to become a hero who will win back Korea’s independence.
The native home helped him have a better understanding of the country and people and grow up to become their son beyond his family and embark on the road to the revolution.
“ Nostalgia ” reflects the sweet memories of native homes, parents and siblings, as well as the lofty sentiment of the anti-Japanese revolutionary fighters who were determined to bring the day of national liberation without fail.
The lyrics of the song emotionally depict the memories of his mother who was tearfully seeing him off when he left his home village with beautiful mountains and rivers. They also strongly represent the yearning for the spring at his native village at Mangyongdae with the Taedong River flowing by and all sorts of flowers blooming, and the ennobling patriotic sentiment of the anti-Japanese revolutionary fighters who hardened their resolve to unfailingly win back their beautiful country and return to its embrace.
The song is still being widely sung by Korean people.
