One January day in 1966 the great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il called an official of the Central Committee of the then League of Socialist Working Youth to ask him what events were planned to hold to mark the 20th anniversary of the Korean Children’s Union.
The official replied that they had planned no special event. Then Comrade Kim Jong Il said that the KCU’s 20th anniversary should not be passed like that, and asked him to re-plan the celebrations, noting that the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung stressed the need to hold big celebrations on the occasion of the KCU’s 20th anniversary, though not holding any other national events in a big way.
A few days later a revised plan was submitted. But he rather criticized the official for having worked out such a passive plan.
He told the official that as planned the joint national meeting of KCU organizations should be held at the then Moranbong Stadium with a background performance in addition to a keynote speech and march-past, adding that the background performance would grace the joint national meeting.
Fireworks have so far been set off on major national holidays, he noted, but this time they should be shot on the KCU members’ holiday.
Therefore, fireworks were set off in the sky over Pyongyang on June 6 to mark the 20th birthday of the KCU.
