I was not sure whether I were in Heaven or on the earth, looking at the Korean people giving cheers for their leader at the top of their voices with tears in their eyes. I keenly realized once again the invincibility of Korean society at the sight of all the people placing deep trust in their leader and following him. These are the voices of admiration made by foreigners from all walks of life who visited the DPRK.

In the DPRK the leader believes in people as in heaven and the latter place deep trust in and follow the former and entrust their all to him. Such single-hearted unity of this country is based on a long historic tradition.

During the Japanese military occupation of Korea (1905 to 1945), young Korean communists of a new generation acclaimed President Kim Il Sung as the Sun of the nation and achieved the historic cause of national liberation (August 1945) under his leadership by rallying all the Koreans around him. The Korean people carried forward the tradition. True to the President’s line of building a new Korea, they stepped up the building of an independent, sovereign state, closely united around him.

Their single mind of believing in and following the leader remained unchanged even in the years of the hard-fought Fatherland Liberation War (June 1950–July 1953) which was decisive of the nation’s destiny.

During the period of strategic, temporary retreat in the war Kim Il Sung met by chance an old man drawing a cart from Poptong County, Kangwon Province, on a hill. He asked the old man where he was going. The old man, who failed to recognize the President at the moment because it was too dark, answered he was going north to meet Kim Il Sung. The President asked him again why he was going to see Kim Il Sung in such wartime. The old man replied in angry voice that only when the people made their way to Kim Il Sung could they find a means of their living and win the war. When the President asked him again whether they could emerge victorious in the war, he stated with confidence that he did not doubt about the victory in the war as the President led the Korean people.

Thanks to the wise leadership of Kim Il Sung who embraced such faithful people with affection and trust, the Korean people won the three-year-long war and turned theirs into a powerful country independent, self-sufficient and self-reliant in defence by stepping up the post-war rehabilitation and socialist revolution.

Chairman Kim Jong Il further cemented the single-hearted unity of the DPRK in which the entire Party and the whole society are closely united behind the leader in ideology, purpose and moral obligation.

He published an immortal classic work, titled, Let us advance under the unfurled banner of single-hearted unity, on January 26, Juche 74 (1985) in which he defined the single-hearted unity based on one centre and one ideology as the revolutionary philosophy of the Workers’ Party of Korea and declared his steadfast faith and will to carry the revolutionary cause of Juche through to the end.

He believed in the people as in heaven and devoted himself for their wellbeing, recording the annals of his revolutionary leadership with many anecdotes. Among them are a story that he asked officials to refrain from seeking economic value rather than care for the good of the people, a story that he asked officials of a factory to apologize to workers for making them work in a graphite dust-rustling place, etc. For this reason, the Korean people opened their heart to him whenever they met with him on his field-guidance trips and supported him faithfully.

Today, they boundlessly admire and follow Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un who is identical with the great leaders Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il.

Last year they renovated Samjiyon City and built Yangdok Hot Spring Resort, Jungphyong Vegetable Greenhouse Farm and Tree Nursery, Phalhyang Dam of Orangchon Power Station and others, and thus proved once again that there will be no fortress they cannot conquer and no difficulty they cannot overcome when they give full play to their inexhaustible strength , closely united behind the Party.

The leader adorns history with his devotion to the people and the latter entrust their all to the former and faithfully support his plans and intention--this single-hearted unity is the true appearance of the DPRK and the great foundation of the Korean revolution. Herein lies the invincible might of the Korean-style socialism.
