The Korean Central News Agency Friday released a report on the successful completion of the large-scale irrigation system in South Hwanghae Province.

Builders and people in South Hwanghae Province have performed heroic feats by completing the second-stage waterway project in a little more than three years in the spirit of self-reliance and fortitude, true to the instructions of Chairman Kim Jong Il and the Party's policy, the report said, and continued:

The successful completion of the second-stage waterway project made it possible to fully supply irrigation water to the vast Western coastal granary, providing a firm foundation for decisively increasing the grain production.

The construction of the peculiar irrigation network of our own style in the western area of the country also makes it possible to save tens of millions kWh of electric power for pumping facilities every year and get a number of pumping equipment out of use, protect land by preventing flood damage in the area along the lower River Jaeryong and River Ryesong and spruce up the appearance of the land of the socialist country.

The completion of the waterway is the clear demonstration of our Party's great idea of the frontal offensive to accomplish the great cause of prosperity by dint of self-reliance by overcoming all sorts of challenges of history, the validity of its policy of agricultural irrigation system and the inevitable might of our state bringing about great changes by evoking the inexhaustible creative power of the popular masses.

The waterway is a monumental edifice in the era of the Workers' Party which was completed thanks to the instructions of Kim Jong Il and the far-reaching nature-remaking plan and energetic guidance of Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un.

In April Juche 100 (2011), Kim Jong Il issued an order of the chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission to commence the waterway project in two stages.

After seeing through the significance and importance of the project in decisively increasing the agricultural production in South Hwanghae Province, which takes lion's share of domestic agricultural production, he aroused the entire Party, the whole country and all the people to the grand nature-remaking project.

The waterway project began in January 2012 when all the people started their advance for the new century of Juche amid the fierce flames of devotedly implementing the instructions of the leader and upholding the policies of the Party.

The construction of waterway was a big construction campaign for building a gravity-fed irrigation network, the largest one, during which over 11 800 000 cubic meters of bedrock and earth should be excavated, dozens of waterway tunnels cut and over 190 km-long waterway with at least 770 structures of different kinds and huge siphons built.

The fierce hot wind of leap forward was raised from the beginning of the first-stage project.

Through 5 year-long arduous struggle for bringing nature under control with the spirit of self-reliance and self-development, the builders successfully completed the first-stage waterway project in South Hwanghae Province in the meaningful year when the Seventh Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea was held.

The second-stage waterway project began from January 2017.

The second-stage project was also a difficult and huge task to carry out gigantic amount of work for laying the foundation, which was as big as that of the first-stage project, such as removing earth, excavating bedrock and tamping concrete, and build a reservoir dam, over 80 km-long waterway, tunnels and hundreds of structures like siphons and culverts.

A fierce hot wind of creating new standards and new records was raised in the construction of Pongchonho Dam, the major front of the waterway project.

The building of spillway, which was said to take over 2 years, was finished in a short span of one year.

The building of reservoir dam with over 1 400 000 cubic meters of sand, stone and mud was carried out in three-dimensional way, and finally the dam with large letters "Self-Reliance" on its body took its shape in April, 2019.

The fierce hot wind was also witnessed at the construction sites of tunnels and waterway.

Thanks to the efforts of shock brigade members true to the Party's noble intention for the people, socialist fairylands for the people evacuated from submerged areas came into being and good species of trees and flower trees were planted in nearby mountains and fields to add beauty.

The completion of the waterway project in South Hwanghae Province proved once again truth that there is nothing impossible in the world as long as there are the leadership of the great Party and the inexhaustible might of people opening a broad avenue for leap forward under the uplifted banner of self-reliance, the report stressed.
