The DPRK has a scientist who has given perfect solutions to several problems, which remained unsolved in the sector of computational algebra and geometry, for the first time in the world. He is Prof. Kim Kwang Ho, section chief of the Mathematics Institute under the State Academy of Sciences.
His presentation on the formulae for the group operation on elliptic curves over binary fields has been posted as the most advanced one in the corresponding sector in the website “EFD” since 2008 up to now.
His research findings have been quoted and described after his name such as “Kim-Kim formulae for point doubling”, “Kim et al’s formulae” and “Kim-Negre coordinates” over 300 times in the international conference proceedings and international science journals in the relevant sector, research reports, websites and degree theses.
In particular, the “Speeding up Elliptic Curve Scalar Multiplication without Precomputation” which he submitted in September 2017 became a breaking news of 2017 in the cryptography sector in the CHES (Cryptographic Hardware and Embedded Systems) 2017 rump session, the most authoritative session in the information security sector.
At the session Mike Hamburg, a cryptographer, made clear in detail that the theses submitted by the cryptographers of the DPRK surpassed all the preceding technologies, and raised it as his future work to submit this technology to TLS 1.3, the global internet security standard.
On July 23, 2018, Kim Kwang Ho was confirmed to be a member of the Program Committee of the 9th International Workshop on the Arithmetic of Finite Fields (WAIFI) which would be held in 2022.
On May 3, 2020, the co-editor-in-chief of “Advances in Mathematics of Communications” (AMC), the international SCI-level journal, informed him that the “Speeding up Elliptic Curve Scalar Multiplication without Precomputation”, which he contributed in 2019, has been accepted as one of the best papers for publication in the AMC journal for the year 2019-2020, and that his paper has highly contributed to the advances in mathematics for cryptography.
Kim Kwang Ho was awarded the February 16 Sci-tech Prize, the highest honour in the science and technology sector of the country, and selected as one of the national top scientists and technicians in 2020.
