One of the most popular cartoons in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea is the 100-part historical cartoon "The Boy General".

"All people, young and old, like the cartoon 'The Boy General'. All my family members often sit together to watch the cartoon. Through the cartoon, we have a better understanding of the long history of the Korean nation."

The cartoon tells the patriotic spirit of the Koguryo people who defended the country from the foreign invaders. Here Koguryo is the first feudal state of Korea which existed between 277 B.C. and A.D. 668.

The cartoon "The Boy General" was produced by the Korea April 26 Animation Studio.

It began to be created in Juche 70(1981) and was completed from one to 50 parts until the late 1990s.

Kim Jin Hyok, Section Chief of the Korea April 26 Animation Studio, says:

"The cartoon 'The Boy General' from one to 50 parts was produced by creators of the former generation, which was very popular. We were feeling satisfied with it.

When he visited our studio on November 26, 2014, the respected Kim Jong Un said we should produce another 50 parts of the cartoon.

He said: The serial cartoon should be produced under the theme that patriotism is carried forward generation after generation. The hero may grow older enough to have children and a grandson. The cartoon should show that patriotism is carried on through generations."

Kim Jong Un paid special attention to the production of cartoon for the cultural and emotional life of the people.

The creation of the cartoon "The Boy General" started again in Juche 104(2015) amid the concern of the whole country.

It was not easy to create another 50 parts of the serial cartoon which had been already finished nearly 20 years before.

The creators set human relations and theme of the cartoon to construct its plot as Kim Jong Un taught.

Whenever every part of the serial cartoon was televised, it won a great popularity, and everybody waited for its next part.

The last 100th part of the historical cartoon "The Boy General" was first televised in December two years ago. However, the  cartoon is still popular.
