Evil-Minded Nature Peculiar to the U.S.

Date: 07/12/2021 | Source: Ministry of Foreign Affairs (EN) | Read original version at source

On November 23, the U.S. Department of the Treasury put the Russian company and ship on the list of sanctions again for the reason that they were involved in building the “Nord Stream 2” gas pipeline, thus triggering fierce response from the Russian side.

Russian Foreign Minister, in his speech at a platform on the same day when the U.S. announced sanctions, warned that the U.S. is tightening unilateral sanctions in various fields including the project of “Nord Stream 2” and that Russia will go to any lengths to take a corresponding step towards this.

The spokesperson for the Russian foreign ministry ridiculed that the U.S. is regarding the act of imposing sanctions as the display of its power, but it rather betrays its inherent weakness, emphasizing that the project of “Nord Stream 2” is a commercial plan which holds a great significance in ensuring energy security in Europe.

Germany, one of the U.S. allies, is also raising its voices against the U.S. sanctions.

The U.S. media made public that the German foreign ministry recently sent a document to the U.S. Congress in which it had requested the U.S. to stop putting additional sanctions against the project of “Nord Stream 2”, citing the reason that it would discredit the U.S. and harm the transatlantic relations.

As is already known, “Nord Stream 2” gas pipeline is an economic project installed under the agreement between Russia and Germany for the purpose of meeting the needs of natural gas which are on rapid increase in Europe.

However, the U.S. has imposed sanctions on Russia as many as 7 times since 2019 in relation to the project of “Nord Stream 2”, claiming that this gas pipeline is a geopolitical weapon of Russia.

There is a saying that “What is learned in the cradle is carried to the tomb.” It is an evil practice peculiar to the U.S. that is apt to impose sanctions against countries of its dislike with all sorts of reasons and excuses which do not hold water.

Analysts are on the same wavelength in commenting that what lurks behind the U.S. resort to sanctions against “Nord Stream 2”is its evil design to stop Russia from expanding its political influence to the U.S. allies and to have a monopoly on the European energy market by supplying its high-priced shale gas instead of Russian gas.

Bygone are the days when the U.S. had controlled everything. Unilateral policy of the U.S., which swims against the tide and wields the stick of sanctions according to its own interests, is doomed to failure.
