More than half a century has passed since the adoption of the “International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination” on December 21, 1965. But the acts of racial discrimination are not yet rooted out.
Recently, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of one European country recognized that the acts of racial discrimination have become a serious social issue in its country. It also clarified that, among the acts of racial discrimination, 56% are committed on the grounds of different nationality, 27% of different religious beliefs and 16% of different colour, noting that ostracism and hostile acts against the black people are ever more increasing.
Acts of discrimination are also found in the fields of medical service and education. In one of the European countries, as many as 86% of the white people were inoculated in the COVID-19 vaccination work for the age group of above 70. On the contrary, only 55% of black people were inoculated in this. And 95% of black schoolchildren are liable to physical violence and inhumane insults at school.
This year, a gypsy was murdered in Europe, which reminds us of George Floyd case. As this incident broke out, people, carrying the placards of “Gypsy’s life is also precious”, protested against the inhumane acts of the policeman who brutally strangled the gypsy to death.
Persecution of Jews is also raised as a serious issue in Europe which can’t be set at defiance.
On November 9, 2021, the European Rights Watchdog warned that the anti-Semitism is rearing its ugly head in Europe as the rumour spread through Internet that the Jews are responsible for the recent epidemic crisis.
EU Agency for Fundamental Rights, a subsidiary of EU also pointed out that such a trend is appearing most transparently in Germany and France, and announced that it had received the summary sheets on the persecution of Jews which happened in Germany and France with the former being recorded 2,351 cases and the latter with 339 cases last year.
European countries should no longer turn a blind eye to all kinds of acts of racial discrimination which are rife on their own land. Instead, they should feel due responsibilities for such acts and take institutional steps to prevent them.
Discrimination of the people on the grounds of different nationality and colour and even killing them mercilessly today is the revival of the immoral crimes of the colonial era, which can’t be overlooked under all circumstances and escape from the condemnation and denunciation of the international society.
