On January 14, Wang Yi, State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) gave the answer to a question put by Phoenix Satellite TV of Hong Kong as regards the recent U.S. sanctions against the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).
He stressed that the U.S. sanctions would only aggravate the tension on the Korean peninsula without giving any help to easing the situation of the Korean peninsula and that it would not solve the problem but generate a new problem.
As for the U.S. claim that it would have a dialogue without preconditions, he said that if the U.S. is really serious in solving the issue of the Korean peninsula, it should take practical measures responding positively to the DPRK’s major concerns.
And he expressed his standpoint that threat to the security of the DPRK should be removed by addressing the reasonable concerns of the DPRK for its security and building up a durable peace mechanism on the Korean peninsula.
The remarks of the State Councilor and Foreign Minister of the PRC clearly tell where it lies the root cause of the increased tensions on the Korean peninsula and what should be the solution to the problem.
