“Dauntless International Activist” Seeking to Escape from the Crisis of Scandal

Date: 28/02/2022 | Source: Ministry of Foreign Affairs (EN) | Read original version at source

The UK is keen on resolving the Ukrainian crisis but it only lost its face with its ulterior intention being brought to the light.

A few days ago, the UK has provided Ukraine with financial support worth €100 million and thousands of anti-tank weapons, and reinforced its forces to the Eastern European countries.

Meanwhile, the British high-ranking officials are kept “busy”. They have visited Ukraine, Poland and Belgium, etc. to discuss about the issue of Ukraine. They have also announced the UK’s stand on the Ukrainian crisis by means of the media on a daily basis.

The British foreign minister staged a scene of taking on the tank in the region bordering with Russia. This has earned her a name from the Russian media as an “iron lady newly emerged in the British political circles”.

This is how the UK has “dedicated” itself to “resolve” the Ukrainian crisis. But things turned out quite contrary to the UK’s expectations when it heard the appraisal of the media.

SRF (Schweizerisches Radio und Fernsehen) scoffed at the UK saying that its action will not elicit a great surprise from Russia. It ridiculed that what the UK is showing its tough stance in contrast to German’s diplomatic tone has something to do with the Prime Minister Johnson’s bid to distract criticism and pressure for his resignation at home as he is in deep waters for holding a drinking bout prohibited during the period of pandemic prevention.

German media including Newspapers “Die Welt” and “Frankfurter Allgemeine” ridiculed that the British Prime Minister, who is now driven to a corner for a big scandal at home, has been able to refurbish his image with his visit to Kiev, and that he is taking advantage of the Ukrainian conflict to escape from the crisis of losing power.

Swiss Newspaper “Neue Züricher Zeitung” said that the Prime Minister Johnson seeks to take the Ukrainian crisis as a momentum to make a noise in the world as a “dauntless international activist” so as to get closer to Washington and make UK’s presence felt as a military power in Europe.

Now is not the time when the UK used to play the role of world police 100 years ago.

If the UK wants to do its share of role in resolving the international issues, it should break from its conventional habit of toeing the US line and adopt an impartial and objective stand with viewpoint and standpoint which are independent and realistic.
