The new-type intercontinental ballistic missile "Hwasongpho-17" of the Strategic Force of the DPRK was test-fired on March 24, Juche 111(2022) under the direct guidance of the respected Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, President of the State Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of the DPRK.

Kim Jong Un gave his autograph order on test-firing the new-type intercontinental ballistic missile of the Strategic Force of the DPRK newly developed on March 23 and called at the test-firing ground on the 24th to guide the whole course of test-firing the intercontinental ballistic missile "Hwasongpho-17".

Deeply seeing through the prospective demand of the Korean revolution which stemmed from the rapidly-changing international political situation, the source of the daily-increasing military tension of the Korean peninsula and the inevitability of the lasting confrontation with US imperialism accompanied with nuclear war threat, he put forward the Juche-oriented strategy for development of the national defence and the policy on strengthening the nuclear war deterrent in a sustainable way at the historic Eighth Congress of the WPK and has organized and led the important work to strengthen the defence capability for their implementation. Especially he has attached the greatest importance to the development of new-type intercontinental ballistic missile and given meticulous guidance and orientation almost every day to complete the "Hwasongpho-17" weapon system as a crystallization of the motive force, a creation of self-reliance, a core striking means of the Strategic Force of the DPRK and a reliable means for deterring a nuclear war.

The officials, scientists and technicians in the field of defence science research and the heroic workers in the field of munitions industry, who have been armed with his original idea on the self-reliant defence strategy and been under his direct guidance, waged a vigorous struggle to study, develop and produce a new-type intercontinental ballistic missile with their creative wisdom and indomitable spirit, thus presenting it in a short span of time.

Kim Jong Un acquainted himself in detail with the preparations for test-firing the new-type intercontinental ballistic missile "Hwasongpho-17" on the spot on the afternoon of March 24 before giving an order on advancing to the launching position.

Going out to the launching position and guiding even the last processes of the preparations for launch in detail one by one, he gave strength and encouragement to the defence scientists and missilemen who took part in the test-firing so as to bring the important moment when the great development of the defence capability of the DPRK would be demonstrated all over the world.

When he occupied the general command post for launch together with leading officials in the field of defence science research, combat alarms for test-firing the intercontinental ballistic missile "Hwasongpho-17" were given to the launching position, the posts of test observation technology and the test research institutes concerned.

Then, his order of launch was issued to the firepower units and the commander of the Red Flag Company with the task to test-fire the strategic weapon gave a loud order of launch.

The moment, the dazzling light of fire heated the ground like a mass of flames along with a loud explosion shaking the earth and sky and a tremendous missile charged with the irresistible force of the DPRK was launched to the outer space from the ground.

The intercontinental ballistic missile was test-fired vertically in consideration of the security of the neighbouring states.

The intercontinental ballistic missile "Hwasongpho-17" launched at the Pyongyang International Airport, flew 1,090 kilometres for 4,052 seconds while going up to the highest altitude 6,248.5 kilometres before correctly hitting the target in the set waters over the East Sea of Korea.

This test-firing clearly proved that all the fixed numbers of the weapon system have correctly met the demand of its design and the reliability of its prompt operation under the wartime condition can be ensured scientifically and technically and practically.

This super-large intercontinental ballistic missile "Hwasongpho-17" weapon system which the Strategic Force of the DPRK is equipped with and operates according to the plan of building the state nuclear force will reliably perform its mission and duty as a powerful nuclear war deterrent thoroughly controlling the nuclear war threats and challenges to the DPRK, offensively coping with any military crisis and defending the security of the DPRK.

Kim Jong Un proudly said: The new strategic weapon of the DPRK will clearly show the might of our strategic force to the whole world once again. The success in the development of the new-type intercontinental ballistic missile, the aggregate of the latest defence science and technology, is a great demonstration of the might of our self-reliant defence industry which has increased and developed with our driving force.

Today's another miraculous victory is a priceless victory achieved by the great Korean people who have unconditionally supported and upheld the Party's lines on the self-reliant defence upbuilding and nuclear force building with one mind and purpose for the security of the country and the lasting peace of all generations despite all difficulties.

Steadfast are the strategic choice and determination of our Party and government to strengthen the powerful nuclear war deterrent both in quality and quantity and in a sustainable way for the security of the country and to cope with all crises in the future. Possessing the incomparably overwhelming military offensive ability is the most reliable war deterrent, state defence capability. In the future, too, we will concentrate all efforts of the state on continuously strengthening the defence capability. This is the decision made by our Party and the noble option made by our people themselves for their dignity, sovereignty and peace and for the eternal safety of our country and posterity.

It is necessary to make clear that whoever tries to infringe upon the security of our state shall pay dearly. Our state defence capability will make thorough preparations for long confrontation with US imperialism on the basis of the tremendous military technical force unflinching even to any military threat and blackmail.
