Banner of Independence and Justice Waving in Latin America

Date: 12/07/2022 | Source: Ministry of Foreign Affairs (EN) | Read original version at source

A powerful struggle is being vigorously waged in Latin America region, once regarded as “the U.S. backyard”, to defend independence of the country and realize international justice.

Recently, left-wing forces, which aspire after independent internal and external policies, took power in several countries in the region by winning the presidential election one after another.

The left-wing governments are enjoying support from their peoples and international society as they came into power by taking as their political platform to reject domination and subordination of outside forces and to realize socioeconomic changes for dignity and well-being of the masses.

These countries are giving high priority to the work for stabilizing and improving the economy and people’s livelihood by overcoming the severe Covid-19 pandemic crisis. At the same time, they are actively engaged in various works to achieve socioeconomic changes. These include eradication of all kinds of crimes, and irregularities and corruption which were once rampant in the society. Included in them is also the work to end poverty and reform the outdated legal system.

Meanwhile, what draws our special attention is the fact that there is an increasing atmosphere of rejecting the U.S. high-handedness and arbitrariness amid stronger desire for international justice in the region.

A typical example is the strong protest by many countries in the region against the arbitrariness of the U.S. that excluded Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua from the 9 th Summit of the Americas held in June.

Countries in the region are raising their voices that the Organization of American States should stand up to the U.S. high-handed act. They are saying that it is blindly following the U.S., just deviating from its desired mission and purpose; it should maintain its independence not allowing itself to dance to the tune of a specific great power; and the region should form its own union like the EU in order to free itself form economic dependence on the U.S., as required by the changed times.

This reflects the will of these countries to get rid of the U.S. domination and seek independent way of development.

Even the U.S. media expresses concern that the Biden administration would significantly lose its influence over its “backyard”, if it does not change the policy towards Latin America in an all-round way.

High-handedness and arbitrariness cannot last long, whereas independence and justice would always emerge victorious. This is the truth evidenced by the history.

The past and the present of Latin America vividly show that every country can achieve independent development and prosperity and build a just society only through the struggle against the U.S. hegemonic way of thinking.

We would strive to develop relations of friendship and cooperation with Latin American countries under the ideals of independence, peace and friendship.
