As has already been reported, on July 13, the DPRK decided to recognize the independence of the People’s Republic of Donetsk and the People’s Republic of Lugansk and expressed its will to develop the state-to-state relations with these countries under the ideas of independence, peace and friendship.
As soon as the news on the DPRK’s recognition of the independence of the republics in Donbas was announced, many Russian media including TASS and Russia 24 made headlines about it. And political, academic and public circles raised their voices supporting the DPRK’s measure as an independent choice of a sovereign state.
Chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation stated that he welcomes the DPRK’s decision to recognize the independence of the People’s Republic of Donetsk and the People’s Republic of Lugansk and that other countries will follow its example soon.
High ranking officials of the Russian Parliament including First Vice-Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Federation Council of Russia said that the DPRK’s measure is a great encouragement to Russia. They also praised that the DPRK is indeed a genuine friend of Russia for it recognized the sovereignty of the republics in Donbas, quoting the proverb: “A friend in need is a friend indeed”.
Personages of all strata in Russia also said as follows: The DPRK showed a good example of how to defend its own sovereignty; the measure taken by the DPRK - another geopolitical centre of the world- is the answer to the American hegemony. Likewise, they highlighted that the above-mentioned measure of our state constitutes a rightful choice of a sovereign state with independent foreign policy.
In particular, Russian ambassador to the DPRK noted that the DPRK has recognized the independence of the republics in Donbas since it regards the struggle of people in Donbas against neo-Nazi government as a just struggle, and the Kiev regime as a puppet of Washington, seeking to solve its geopolitical issues by pressing Russia with the blood shed by the Ukrainian people.
This clearly proves that admiring voices are growing as ever in support of the validity and vitality of our Republic’s independent foreign policy against imperialism.
In the future too, we will make positive efforts to strengthen the friendly relations with all countries across the world that respect the sovereignty of our Republic, and to realize genuine international justice.
