China Strongly Condemns U.S. House Speaker for Her Trip to Taiwan

Recently, the U.S. House Speaker Pelosi pushed on with her trip to Taiwan in spite of the strong opposition and repeated protests from China, incurring the wrath of China and creating new tension in the Taiwan Strait.

Wang Yi, State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, stated in a press statement that the U.S. act constitutes a grave violation of the principle of “One China” and a political provocation gravely infringing upon the sovereignty of China. Therefore, he said, it is drawing universal opposition from the international society and proves once again that the U.S. is indeed the “biggest disrupter” of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.

During his visit to Bangladesh, he also pointed out 3 mistakes the U.S. has made in the Taiwan issue, namely unwarranted interference in the internal affairs of China, support to the forces seeking “independence of Taiwan” and disruption of peace in the Taiwan Strait.

And he said that the measures taken by China are to defend the national sovereignty and territorial integrity, break the U.S. attempt to “contain China by using Taiwan”, thwart the wild dream of the Taiwan authorities to “seek independence by relying on the U.S.” and to ensure peace in the Taiwan Strait and regional stability.

While answering a question raised by a journalist on China’s countermeasures to Pelosi’s trip to Taiwan, a spokesperson for the Chinese foreign ministry said that, in connection with the trip, China will continue to lodge solemn protests against the U.S. and it will strongly demand that the U.S. reflect seriously upon itself, immediately redress its mistakes and put an end to its moves to “contain China by using Taiwan”.

The Chinese media, too, commented that the continued use of “Taiwan card” by the U.S. is a dangerous move of destroying peace and constantly aggravating the situation in the Taiwan Strait. And they emphasized that China will let not only the U.S. but also outside forces know about the seriousness of the consequences to be brought by interference in the Taiwan issue, and that it will do its level best to ensure the regional peace and stability.
