Energy War Rages

Date: 29/09/2022 | Source: Ministry of Foreign Affairs (EN) | Read original version at source

The U.S. and the West are now toughening the sanctions on oil and natural gas of Russia, regardless of the ever-worsening world energy crisis.

Its typical example is the recent agreement of G7 member states. That is to limit the import price of Russian oil to US$ 60 a barrel under the pretext of cutting off the source of war funds of Russia.

Not content with this, the Western countries made a coercive demand on China and India, the major importers of Russian oil, to join in their efforts.

Accustomed to disposing of other’s at their own will, the U.S. and the West are getting impudent and high-handed in their behavior. However, it now invites a strong backlash from Russia.

Russia is now leveling heavy criticism at the U.S. attempt to monopolize the world energy market and seek much more interests, likening it to complete absurdity.

President Putin, during his participation in the plenary meeting of the 7 th Eastern Economic Forum recently held in Vladivostok, made it clear that Russia would not sell its oil and natural gas to those countries which try to set a unilateral limit in price of energy resource.

The Vice-Chairman of Security Council of the Russian Federation and Minister of Energy have warned that they can export their oil and natural gas to other countries which are willing to be cooperative, according to the market conditions, as there is no need for Russia to sell energy resource at a cheap price even at the sacrifice of its own interests.

EU member states are now putting their heads together to set a limit price on Russian natural gas as well. But so far, they have not reached a particular agreement due to the conflict of their own interests.

The spokesperson of the Russian foreign ministry derided this situation, saying “so-called developed EU member states have turned into imbecile countries which cannot warm themselves up just at the instigation of ‘Mr. Washington’.”

Exposing that the ulterior purpose of the U.S. and the West is to make Russia a weak entity which cannot pose a threat to them forever, analysts comment that Russia would get tougher in its countermeasures to defend its national interests.
