Changed Design

One day in January, Juche 101(2012), the respected General Secretary Kim Jong Un inspected the Mansugyo Fish and Meat Shop under construction.

At that time, a rotating door was installed at the entrance, which was not suitable for the shop, a public service facility, even though it might go well with a hotel or other luxurious buildings. It was the result of the designers’ viewpoint, who failed to ensure convenience of the people, only prioritizing the aesthetic aspects.

The respected General Secretary pointed out this shortcoming and taught that the designers must give top priority to embodying the serve-the-people spirit in designing even a single structure and that it was the fundamental requirement of our Party’s idea of architectural aesthetic beauty to form all the elements of the structure in such a way that they meet the people’s demands and ensure the people’s convenience to the full.

His words bore his ennobling view on the people of regarding their demands and convenience as the foremost standard of creation.

He went on to say that the construction of the shop in Yongung Street was not aimed merely at facelifting Pyongyang City with a peculiar building but at providing our people with civilized and excellent living conditions.

He then earnestly requested that the entrance of the shop must be redesigned in such a way that all the elements are arranged conveniently for the customers in order to turn the shop into one that serves the people in the true sense of the word.

Thus, the design of the Mansugyo Fish and Meat Shop was changed to convey the respected General Secretary’s noble view on the people.

For People’s Convenience

Once, the respected General Secretary looked round the Changjon Haemaji Restaurant whose interior was near completion.

Heading toward the stairs to the second floor, he noticed that an elevator had been installed.

He was so satisfied with the fact that an elevator had been arranged for the people’s convenience even though the restaurant was not a many-storied one. He appraised that it was so good to have an elevator there for the sake of the aged people, honored disabled soldiers, others who had difficulty in walking and children.

Officials felt a lump in their throat, looking up to him who loved the people so much that he was beyond himself looking at an elevator of the newly-built restaurant.

Presently, he said that everything must be done after taking everything into account on the principle of regarding the people’s convenience as the most important and absolute.

His words bore his lofty intention that every creation on this land, big and small, must thoroughly be people-oriented.
