A medical scholar at the Tumour Institute under the Academy of Medical Sciences is on the spotlight of the tumour treatment sector.
He is Choe Il Song, PhD and section chief who completed a brachytherapy by means of a radioactive nuclide seed, an advanced cancer treatment method, and introduced it into clinical practice.
His colleagues say he has a deposition of carrying through to the end what he once started.
In February Juche 108 (2019), he came to know that it was a global trend to treat cancer with a radioactive nuclide while reading the latest medical documents.
It was an advanced technique of sealing with glass or metal a radioactive source which reduces and exterminates tumour and inserting it into the tumour or putting it near the tumour.
He buckled down to the research without hesitation. He made painstaking efforts day and night with an ambition and audacity to take a hundred steps when others take a step.
He conducted scores of vivisection with the help of technicians of a relevant unit.
In the course of this, he selected a rational nuclide and sealing material and finally developed a new cancer treatment therapy by means of fibroin seed, a radioactive nuclide.
He said: In clinical trials, the new radioactive nuclide seed showed no rejection to organism and was safe to human body. The inserted nuclide seed directly exterminated cancer cells with no negative effects on the surrounding normal tissues. In this way, my colleagues and I applied it to treating not only malignant tumours in the mouth and on the chin and face but cervical cancer.
When his new therapy was made public, medical scholars in several countries requested video clips on it and expressed their official intention to introduce it into public health practice in their countries. Later, the video clips were transmitted to several countries.
Kim Un Gyong, 30, living in Neighbourhood Unit No. 13 in Kyongam-dong in Sariwon City, North Hwanghae Province, said: I was diagnosed as a cervical cancer in September 2021. At that time, I thought to give up my life. But I recovered my health thanks to high skills and warm sincerity of medical workers of the institute.
Choe expressed his determination to devote his all to producing research findings conducive to promoting the people’s health.
He continues his research to improve the effectiveness of the therapy and expand the scope of its application.
