It is a social and national custom for the Party and the state today in the DPRK to take full responsibility for and care of the life and health of the elderly and direct special attention towards them. The elderly in the DPRK are treated with respect as revolutionary forerunners, mentors and seniors. And they enjoy a happy life in good health filled with vigor even in their old age.

On the International Day of Older Persons each year, public catering establishments in Pyongyang and all other areas across the country are providing special festive treats for them. People visit their parents wishing them good health and longevity, and leading officials of the Party and the state visit the elderly in old folks’ homes.

Possessing noble moral fidelity to the revolutionary forerunners, respected Comrade Kim Jong Un built beautiful old folks’ homes all over the country so that the elderly may spend the rest of their lives in leisure. He is now showing his great benevolence by taking measures allowing the elderly to enjoy worthy lives in their old age under special concern from the Party, the state and society.

In this year alone, three centenarians received birthday spreads from respected Comrade Kim Jong Un creating an atmosphere of rejoice across the nation. And under the keen interest of the state and society, a grand sports contest for the elderly was also held in autumn.

Such an atmosphere is prevailing in the society as to respect and provide preferential treatment to the revolutionary forerunners. The elderly of our country are enjoying worthwhile life for the rest of their days without any worries wearing happy smile and shedding tears of thanks for the love and care of our Party and often singing the song “Though Time Passes By” that praises their happy life enjoying the longevity in good health under the warm care of the Party.

There are elder people in all the countries of the world but no elderly spends their twilight years with the blessings of everyone as in our socialist country full of love, affection and faith.

The Japanese press media recently reported as follows: horrifying incidents beyond imagination take place ceaselessly in the country making the older persons shiver in apprehension and fear. A group of criminals was found to have defrauded the aged of their money; people treat cruelly and even kill their parents under the excuse of destitution, a staff of a home for the old people beat an old woman, etc.

In the meantime, the number of suicides continues to increase among the old people of the U.S. due to the difficult economic conditions, maltreatment by their own sons and daughters, mental disorder, and etc. And this gives rise to a serious concern of the community.

Grandchildren deprive money of their grandparents and use violence at all times; life after retirement is tantamount to a reprieve period - such lamentation spreads like a catch phrase, and this is the reality of the capitalist society.

Under the warm care of respected Comrade Kim Jong Un , the elderly in our country enjoy their life as ever-green pine trees, whereas the old people in the capitalist country spend their lives hopelessly as fallen leaves in the autumn. This happiness of the elderly in our country and the miserable life of the aged in the capitalist country are inevitable results brought about by the two totally distinct social systems.
