With regards to the U.S. decision to sell 400 “Tomahawk” cruise missiles to Japan, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China has recently denounced it as an act of putting spurs to arms race in the region and posing threats to peace and security.

She said that in recent years, the U.S. continuously strengthened military cooperation with its allies in pursuit of unilateral military dominance. It also supported and tolerated Japan going further down the path of expanding its military forces, throwing off the shackles of peace constitution step by step, she added.

Saying that such moves of the U.S. and Japan incur fierce arms race and pose threats to the regional peace and security, seriously upset the strategic balance and stability of the world and violate the international order based on international law, she insisted that Japan’s military acts always caused serious concerns from the international community and its neighboring countries in Asia because of historical reasons.

In conclusion, the spokesperson warned the U.S. and Japan to respect the security concerns of the Asian countries and be discreet in their words and deeds in the field of military security.
