O Jong Gum, a worker at the public service station in Phyongchon District, Pyongyang, could hardly go to sleep on November 26, as she was elected deputy to the Phyongchon District People’s Assembly at the election of deputies to local power organs held that day.
To those who were congratulating her, she said she had done nothing great for the sake of the country.
As a hairdresser she has worked with devotion for over 30 years since her girlhood to make citizens of the capital city neater and more beautiful.
She has offered kind service to customers while steadily enhancing her technical skills so as to satisfy the demands of them with different hairstyles and jobs.
She provided service not only to the customers in her workplace but also to workers in the major sectors of the national economy, including the Pyongyang Thermal Power Station and the construction site of 10 000 flats in the capital city. She also visited families of war veterans and disabled former soldiers in the district on holidays and off-days to give them haircut service.
In those days, she was called our hairdresser and auntie hairdresser .
She has trained a number of hairdressers into high skilled workers.
I will live as a faithful servant of the people all my life .
With this thought, she went to her workplace the following morning, expressing her sincere gratitude to the voters, who had cast their ballots for her.
