Ri Song Guk, head of the pharmaceutical department of the Jongju City Hospital in North Phyongan Province, is a talented Koryo medicine doctor.
Over the past three decades, he, with high medical skills, has treated many patients with obstinate diseases such as capital aseptic necrosis and osteomyelitis.
In his childhood, he often saw his father curing serious cases with medicines made of natural medicinal materials he had collected in mountains, and cherished a dream of following in his father’s footsteps.
Later, he graduated from the Pharmaceutical Faculty of Sinuiju College of Medical Sciences and was appointed a doctor at the aforesaid hospital.
He dedicated himself to the treatment of patients based on traditional medicine, a precious legacy of the Korean nation.
One day he came to know that a disabled former soldier in Namchol-dong in the city had undergone a surgery for comminuted fracture of the central part of the right thigh but had been still in sickbed for some years.
Without hesitation, he made up his mind to treat the former soldier.
While repeating serious discussions with competent medical workers in the capital city of Pyongyang and local areas through telemedicine system, he conceived a novel idea of recovering the patient at an early date possible by using various Koryo medicinal materials abundant in the country.
Thanks to the introduction of a new therapy, the condition of the patient improved remarkably soon, and he was cured of the disease in 60-odd days, getting back on his feet.
In the course of this, the doctor was convinced that he could cure by means of Koryo therapy obstinate diseases, which were hard to cure with western medicine.
While acquiring advanced medical sciences and techniques one by one and applying them into clinical practice, he developed Koryo medicines, including the one highly efficacious against cirrhosis, sustained-release gargle and other medicines one after another, registering successes in curing patients.
He says, “Whenever I see the patients, who were in mental agony, leaving the hospital with a bright smile, I become more deeply aware of the mission and duty of a medical worker.”
He is loved and respected by the people as a skilled doctor and a merited person of socialist patriotism with high skills and warm human love.
