This year, too, a large number of modern rural dwelling houses have been built in different parts of the country, according to the Workers’ Party of Korea’s programme for the rural revolution in the new era.
Kumchang-ri of Hochon County in South Hamgyong Province is the dead end of a mountain valley, but new houses were built first in the county. The single-storey and terraced houses, which were built so wonderfully that no previous looks can be found, have made everyone happy as they satisfy the needs of the farmers for living.
These days the entire mountain village is bubbling with excitement.
In the evenings after a day’s work, every household is busy making a phone call to relatives or friends to boast of their home.
In the daytime, too, everyone is busy.
Provincial and county officials visit the owners of the new houses to see if there is any inconvenience in their living, and even those living in other areas call on them regardless of the time to congratulate them and see their houses.
Such happy event is not confined to the village.
Modern houses preserving the distinctive features of the countryside have also been built in many villages in South Phyongan, Jagang and Ryanggang provinces and happy laughter and songs ring out from the new homes of agricultural workers.
All the owners of the new houses provided by the state free of charge say that as mountains and rivers undergo dramatic change under the loving care of the Workers’ Party of Korea, so do their farms, and vow that they will do farming well and build a more civilized life as befitting the agricultural workers living in the new era of rural development.
