Landscape gardening projects are now well underway in Pyongyang to create eco-friendly living spaces for the citizens and add to the beauty of the natural scenery, and thereby beautiful gardens and parks have appeared.

Among them is the park around the Pothonggang Seafood Shop in Moranbong District, whose landscape has been designed in a distinctive style to attract the people’s attention.

Every visitor becomes fascinated with the panoramic view of the park, which forms a small “forest” with trees and flowers of good species.

Such features as the creation of coloured belts with various species of trees including Taesong Spiraea prunifolia var. simpliciflora nak and trees which form various shapes in different sections, are the sights that cannot be seen in other places.

There are various species of trees in the shape of "fishes" and even "coral reefs" in the sea in the place, called a “fish section”. So it looks like “fishes” swimming around there, reminding viewers of the fact that it is a seafood shop.

Around the outdoor dining table beside the food counter of the park are standing several species of trees including Wisteria floribunda. In hot summer, visitors sit in the cool shade and have a pleasant time, drinking soft drinks.

"Whenever we see people who are happy to visit the park, we feel proud of the efforts we made to build the park with a desire to do anything good for the people. The letters ‘People’ formed with Taesong Spiraea prunifolia var. simpliciflora nak reflect the minds of all of our employees," said Ri Myong Hwa, manageress of the shop.

The Ryomyong Street Greening Management Station in Taesong District has planted fir, cypress and other evergreen trees with beautiful shapes in group to present a splendid view in all four seasons.

According to an official of the Greening Bureau of the Pyongyang Municipal People's Committee, the bureau worked out a greening plan for further improving the scenery of the capital this year, too, and launched into its implementation from the beginning of the year.

A series of projects are also being pushed ahead to build sports parks in Kumran and Unha islands of the Pothong River and landscape their surroundings and to create lawns and plant trees in over a dozen places of the river basin for the improvement of its ecological environment.

At the same time, lawn blocks are laid in parking lots and sidewalks in the city as part of its effort to increase the green areas and rooftop greening is being pushed forward in a new style in cooperation with relevant institutions.

Old trees on Somun Street and in its vicinity are changed with trees of good species including zelkova and ginkgo trees and the area around 10 000 flats built at the second stage in the Hwasong area has been landscaped along with construction.

Stone flowerpot stands of unique designs are also built beside the roads in Central, Pothonggang, Songyo and other districts.
