The first-stage forest restoration campaign was actively conducted in the DPRK in the past ten years.
A remarkable thing is that modern tree nurseries, the arsenal for forest restoration, have been built in all parts of the country.
The Kangwon Provincial Tree Nursery was built as a model, followed by a modern tree nursery in each province (city).
All production processes are automated and put on assembly line, from seed selection to sowing and the packaging of tree saplings.
Meanwhile, all conditions necessary for the production of saplings have been provided in parent nurseries in cities and counties across the country, especially sci-tech learning space, plastic panel greenhouse, round cutting bed and outdoor adaptation area.
The Central Tree Nursery of the Ministry of Land and Environment Protection has further been upgraded.
Therefore, sapling production decisive of successful forest restoration has been doubled as compared to the past.
Scientific research work has been pushed dynamically to raise the rooting rate of saplings, thus providing a firm guarantee for putting forest planting, protection and management on a scientific and intensive basis, and a solid foundation has been laid to produce and supply materials such as plastic panels of all sizes, containers and sunshade needed for forest restoration.
According to an official of the forest guidance bureau under the Ministry of Land and Environment Protection, many mountains get greener day by day with useful trees and “golden and treasure mountains” are on the rise.
