“A road is the face of a country and one of the important criteria which shows the level of economic development and the standard of civilization. It is one of the important things in land management to renovate the paving surface of highways, sightseeing and other key roads, repair installations and plant roadside trees as planned so as to improve the technical condition of roads,” said Kim Kwang Il, section chief of the Ministry of Land and Environment Protection.

The ministry gives effective guidance over different road technical improvement projects as planned.

It arranged in a concentrated way drilling rigs, asphalt pavers and road-paving facilities for the repair of highways and tourist roads including Pyongyang-Wonsan tourist motorway and Pyongyang-Kaesong Motorway to push projects on a high qualitative level and at a fast pace.

It is helping concrete mixture production bases carry out the repair and maintenance of facilities in a short time and different local areas step up the construction of concrete mixture production bases.

And it takes measures to provide materials for repair in time in close contact with relevant units.

It also enables different areas of Jagang and North and South Hamgyong provinces to push the construction of tunnels in different places in parallel with the building and repair of 100 bridges and technical upgrading of hundreds of kilometres of road sections.

The South Hamgyong provincial bureau of land and environment protection and management is channelling efforts into the building and technical upgrading of roads.

While giving precedence to the design related to the building and rebuilding of roads in collaboration with the road designing institute, the bureau pays attention to the supply of materials needed for construction and repair and takes measures to solve knotty problems.

Projects are being pushed, including the expansion and arch covering of Songryong tunnel in Riwon County, the repair of some 150km-long road section in more than 30 places at Machonryong-ri in Tanchon City, the building of a retaining wall and the repair of paving roads.

The building and technical upgrading of roads are carried out in cities and counties of the province.

Efforts are being directed to completely removing traces of winter and ensuring the evenness of road surface.

They give a facelift to roads and ensure accident-free transport of vehicles by setting up posts for security protection, planting roadside trees, carrying out stone covering on relevant sections and putting up the road signs.
