A hopscotch is a gameof little girls which involves jumping between squares which are drawn on the ground.
The game needs a stone and playground where squares have been drawn.
The stone is a 1-1.5cm-thick and flat stone or glazed earthenware piece whichis 6-8cm in diameter.
Typical hopscotch games are nebatmangchagi,umulmangchagi and tongsunaegi .
Tongsunaegi is a game whose rankings are decided accordingto priority of players who get the high scorefirst.
The score is set by mutual agreement prior to the game.
It is played as follows:
You throw the stone tothe first square at the entrance and jump up to the eighth square as you kick it with one foot. Then, you leave the stone behind and stepinto the ninth square with two feet.
Here, you take a rest for a moment and turn back to pick up the stone in the eighth square.You then stand in that place and throw the stone over your head into any squarewith a score. You will get 100 points if it falls into the 100-point square and 500 points if it goes into the 500-point one.
But if it fails to go into any square withpoint and lies on a line or outside thesquare with points, you cannot get any score and it becomes theturn of other player.
After getting a score by throwing the stone, you go back jumpingwith one foot along the path you followed and enter thetenth square through the second square.
Thenyou take a short rest there standing on one foot, before taking up the stone in the square with a score and returning to the entrance to finish the first round of play with ascore.
When you pick up the stone on a squarewith point, you should neither pull nordrop it nor move yourfeet. Ifyou do so, you cannot get the score and it becomes the turn of other player.
In this way, players start other rounds of play inascending order, namely from the second square andthen from the third one, and the rankings are decided by putting together thepoints.
Besides,there are kasemangchagi, mangjutkiand other playing methods according to the pattern of the square and the form of playing.
Suchgames differed in the playing form, but were the same in kicking the stone with one foot.
Hopscotch is a good game as it helpsyou have stronger legs and develop thephysical function of balancing the body with one foot since youshould reach the destination while jumping and kicking the stone with one foot.
