Non-aligned Information Services Speak Up for Justice and Truth

On June 15, 1993, the 4 th NAM Conference of Ministers of Public Information took place in Pyongyang, the capital city of the DPRK. Delegations from more than 60 countries participated in the conference including the information ministers from over 30 countries.

It was the time when the imperialists were scheming to incite aggression and war with disinformation and massive spread of reactionary ideology and culture. With deep insight into the pressing need to establish a new international public information order to cope with such maneuvers, President Kim Il Sung personally initiated the undertaking of the ministerial conference in the DPRK and led the preparatory work step by step.

Then, on the opening day of the conference, he delivered a historic speech entitled: “Non-aligned Information Services Must Contribute to the People’s Cause of Independence” . In the speech, he gave a comprehensive elucidation of the principle issues facing non-aligned information services including its main mission mandated to contribute to the just cause of the people for independence, peace and social progress.

That evening, he sat together with the heads of delegations from Indonesia, Cuba, Zimbabwe, India, Egypt and Iran and highlighted the importance of information services as well as the related tasks and specific ways to get there.

President Kim Il Sung had long led non-aligned information services so that the non-aligned information would really speak up for the people aspiring to independence.

In 1982 alone, President Kim Il Sung met the Chairman of the Coordinating Committee of the Non-aligned News Agencies Pool in March and when the 7 th session of the Coordinating Committee was held in our country in May that year, he sat together with the participants, illuminating the way forward for non-aligned information services.

President Kim Il Sung is indeed the great leader and the veteran of world progressive information development. With his energetic revolutionary activities, he not only provided an in-depth and comprehensive clarification on the issues awaiting urgent solution in the field of international information services but also laid the foundation for establishment of the righteous international public information order.

Even today, the world imperialists including the U.S. imperialism are persistently adhering to reactionary information offensives to instigate and aggravate distrust and friction and to provoke hostility among countries and nations aspiring to independence so that they will not unite with one another.

The reality of today clearly indicates that the world progressive nations including the NAM countries should unite as one and frustrate the reactionary ideological offensives of the imperialists with the voice of justice and truth and build a new society, independent and peaceful.
